Executive Coaching and Performance Coaching

My approach to executive coaching is unique in the field. It is as strongly influenced by my martial art training, as it is by my psychology background and experience as a therapist, teacher, and management consultant.

This doesn't mean that I will try to turn you into a fighting machine or a secret agent. It does mean, however, that I will use my expertise to help you become stronger and more resourceful -- at the times and places in your life where it is critically important for you to be as effective as possible.

I help my performance coaching clients learn to think as strategists as they pursue specific goals, and as warriors as they fight their personal and professional battles. I help them develop a greater sense of control in their own lives and focus their energies more effectively -- because, from my perspective these are the clearest paths to achieving success that lasts.

What do Martial Arts and Executive Coaching Have in Common? When we look beyond the funny clothes, the rituals, and all the yelling, we see that the martial arts are about more then just fighting -- they are about learning to master yourself so that you can safely rise above the challenges and risks of the world you live in.

If you spend all your time walking through dark alleys, you'll need one form of martial art skills -- the form I teach in a dojo. However, if you spend your time in business meetings and sales conferences, or negotiating with customers, co-workers or competitors (where the risks are often just as great); you'll need those same skills in a different form -- the form I provide as a performance coach.

The martial arts and executive coaching focus on one specific goal; preparing you to be your best when the pressure is on, the outcome is uncertain, and the results are critical.

If you are interested in more about my view of the martial arts and why they fit so well with performance coaching, read an excerpt from Tiger's Spirit, Human Heart: Martial Art Strategies for the Modern World.
